Why the Type of Fabric Matters When it Comes to Designing Draperies

The goals for the style of your draperies is a top priority...Do you want a light and airy feel such as sheers as a layer? Are you looking for panels of fabric that open and close? The type of fabric and what it is made of will affect how things will look when installed. Consider a drapery weight fabric with a lining and interlining for functional panels- these can also be placed in front of some lightweight sheers for a layered look.

Tip #1: Look Closely at Your Lighting

The next thing to consider is what each room will be used for. Is it a media room where watching films may require the option to darken the room when it is light out? Do you have a large flat screen on the wall in a living room where we want to reduce the glare at certain times of day? Do you prefer to have hotel darkness in the bedrooms when you are ready to sleep or love to wake up to the sun filtering in through the window treatments? Let's use room darkening linings to give some added benefit to your new window treatments!

Tip #2: Inspect Your Home's Insulation

Many people mention that the rooms seem cold during the winter months- let's consider the insulation that draperies can offer; Obviously a very lightweight fabric won't alter that much but if we add some heavier fabrics with particular types of linings we can improve this and increase the “R” value significantly!

Tip #3: Select Your Curtain's Hanging Style

The drapery hardware we select for your projects is based on group of design and functionality goals. What type do you want- wood or metal?

What style of header do you like- a traditional 3 finger pleat or the more frequently used Euro pleat?

Lastly where do you want these positioned- just above the floor, or do you like the fabrics to "break" on the floor for   a hefty, puddled look?

The window treatment design process is just that - a "PROCESS" as window treatment professionals we will guide through these selections and based on some of these objectives and our insights we will find the best recommendations for your projects.
